Taddeus Kosciuszko in America
1776
August - recruited by Benjamin Franklin, arrived in America. First task was fortification of Philadelphia
September - ordered to fortify the banks of the Delaware River
October - Congress commissioned Kosciuszko a Colonel of Engineers in the Continental Army and named head engineer.
1777
spring - under Gen. H. Gates as a chief engineer of Northen Army.
Autumn - contribution to victory at Saratoga. George Washington put Kosciuszko in charge of works at West Point on the Hudson River
1783
October 13 - Congress promoted Kosciuszko to the rank of Brigadier General. Also, Congress granted him citizenship, money and large estate in America. He used his money to buy freedom and educate black slaves. The slaves were granted him by the President of USA.
